Clandestine Industries – The Launch

I liked the old Web site better and not much of a collection. The little rocket and robot animation just doesn’t do it for me.

Maybe there will be a summer line to add later but there offerings especially for the ladies is limited.

I don’t think I’ll be following Clandestine much anymore.

Skins Style Tip – Cassie

An easy style tip to dress more like Cassie by wearing socks, tights or with a long skirt or dress. Socks are very inexpensive, fun, colorful and an easy way to mix up your look to be more like our favorite Skins character. You can also choose to wear knee socks, short socks and any color pair of socks from your local Target or department store. American Apparel also has awesome tube socks which I love wearing to the gym or under boots.

Be even more Cassie like and wear a cheap watch on your ankle. Who says you have to tell time on your wrist anyway? Certainly not Cassie.

Clandestine Industries Re-launch

Clandestine Industries’ Web site was updated for relaunch and the count down clock. The brand will relaunch on February 6. No word of a fashion show or how they will relaunch the brand.

I’ll let you know what happens on February 6. Besides the constantly changing date for a Web site refresh, I’ll be a little annoyed. Come on PR/Marketing team, give us something more than a new inventory and a Web site for the “relaunch.” I hope there is some sort of news announcement at least.

I am fan of this line not because I like Fall Out Boy’s music but I like the style of Pete Wentz. The man loves hoodies and I can’t disagree with that. He is also always himself and encourages others to be themselves too which I think is crucial fashion lesson. You don’t got to like the eyeliner, hair or his music to like the fashion advice he gives.

Plus, I am also a sucker for a heart logo – Clandestine Industries, Angels Jeans (7th grade), Roxy, VS Pink and Juicy Couture. What can I say? I like to wear my heart on my sleeve just not on a terry cloth tracksuit, thank you.

Skins Style – Fashion from Freddie

Let’s take a quick  and simple fashion lesson from Skin’s new fashionable and adorable heartthrob, Freddie McLair (played by Luke Pasqualino). It’s a simple trick to spice up a sweatshirt, tie the strings on your hoodie together into a knot like shown above. Not only is something fun and different but it works for both genders. It also keeps a baggy hoodie from looking too unflattering and from falling off your shoulder.

The hoodie Freddie is wearing is a unisex Salt and Pepper American Apparel for $42. It is a simple, fun pattern with a good color contrasts. I wrote about this hoodie about a month ago, own it and highly recommend it.

Let’s be honest, who’s new favorite character is Freddie too?

From Jackie O to Mrs. O

From the looks of things so far, it looks like it’ll be a great year at The White House for fashion. Everyone is turning to the new First Lady who might just become a great style icon. Already people such as the folks at Mrs. O and around the country are looking to see what she is wearing. I do enjoy how she wears J Crew to beautiful couture gowns, Michelle Obama knows what she is doing. Mrs. O chronicles what Michelle Obama is wearing and the latest news.

Not only does Mrs. O, President Obama and their children have style. Vice President Biden and Jill Biden know how to dress too. Jill Biden’s red coat and boots at the Inauguration were amazing. Some people are criticizing her for saying she was dressed too informal but I don’t think so at all. I am also young and love the trendy red coat and boots, it’s so fun. Who says you have to wear a pant suit with politics? She even stunned the crowd at the Inaugural Ball with a beautiful Reem Acra (my new favorite designer) gown. Not only has this been a great year for Reem Acra but it looks like it’ll be a good four years for White House fashion.  Let’s hope Reem Acra is a part of it.

Is there a Jill Biden fashion blog out there I should be watching?

Skins Style – Bench Over Bristol Shoes

Not to give away an spoilers but Cassie (played by Hannah Murray) is utterly beautiful in a scene from Skins Season 1 when she is standing and twirling on a bench that overlooks Bristol. This outfit is one of the many the buzzes of the Internet.

Everyone seems to want to know how to get those shoes from the scene (shown left) that Cassie is wearing. Well, they are actually do it yourself (DIY). The stylist from Skins, Edward, wrote he actually made them. Now, I’ll tell you how to get these one of a kind Skins shoes.

Supplies:

  • Flesh colored tap shoes, ~$20-$30 (local dance store or online here)
  • Gold spray paint, ~$5 (local hardware store – you might need a parent to purchase depending on your local laws)
  • Glitter spray paint, ~$5 (local craft store -you might need a parent to purchase depending on your state laws)

Steps:

  • Remove laces before painting and make sure to do this in a spot where you can proper ventilation and lay down newspaper not to create a mess
  • Spray the shoes gold on one side, let dry and then spray bottoms next day after shoes are dry (one coat should be sufficient). Warning: When you wear them paint might come off the bottoms but make sure to paint at least the side of the heels gold
  • Spray with the the gold glitter spray the top of the shoes
  • Repeat the same process with the shoe laces, be careful not to spray too much paint or they will stick to the newspaper
  • Alternative: You might even just skip the gold paint and just flitter the flesh tone shoes to avoid cracking or chipping on the shoes
  • Wait until shoes are dry then, lace the shoes
  • Wear the shoes with pride, cute white tights and a white flowy dress to capture the full Cassie look

Not crafty alternatives-

I am not very crafty and all projects can turn out differently. If you are worried about messing up or aren’t very crafty, I wouldn’t paint them gold. Just use the gold glitter spray on the flesh tone tap shoes and you should still get a great pair of unique shoes.

If you’re not into DYI at all, you can also search for shoes with a similar styles at H&M, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Free People, Oasis or TopShop. But making them yourself is as close as you will get to these original shoes. Good luck!

Anyone try the craft project? How did it turn out? Any tips for painting shoes?

Lovely Links

I just got a new computer. I made the big jump from PC to Mac and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. I am getting all my files transfered over and getting used holding down the Control key to right click.  I have a great round-up of links for you and will be back at full force tomorrow.

Lovely Links-

Skins – Season 3 preview available on E4.com, the preview includes someone wearing a pepper American Apparel hoodie I wrote about last month. I also love the way he ties his strings in the front, Freddie got some style. Expect another Skins style post coming soon.

Nice round-up of Golden Globes red carpet and trends at InStyle.

In my opinion, Reem Acra‘s designs dominated the Golden Globes red carpet. I am very excited to see more of her designs in the future.

Bryant Park line-up for Fashion Week was announced

Roberto Cavalli‘s new Fall 2009 men’s line debuts

Clandestine Industries is having a brand re-launch on Feb. 9. I’ll be ready to critique the new line, I mean, how could I not? Pete and I share the obsession of hoodies and he does have some great pieces. Love him or hate him, you got to admit he’s got style. Pete Wentz is offering some previews of the new line on his blog

Anthropologie was having a great sale this weekend and they have some great deals online. You should check it out and their new spring line to score some cute deals.

I am still on the quest for the perfect pair of boots and skinny jeans before winter is up.  Let me know if you have any suggestions on where I can look, I’ve tried everywhere it seems.

Golden Globes – Favorites

I watched the Golden Globes on Sunday running on the treadmill to stay true to my New Year’s resolutions of staying in shape. It was a nice distraction mentally to keep running past my limits to mentally critique and also occasionally verbally comment,  to the horror of the person next to me while I ran. Yes, I was that person at the gym on Sunday but could you blame me? I can’t wait for the Academy Awards.

Check out Fab Sugar’s slideshow of the Golden Globes complete with polls that provides a nice overview of what everyone was wearing and to provide input. Fab Sugar also has post-party fashions, a fun game on who was better dresses and a nice round-up of trends.

Eva Longoria

A simply gorgeous gown that keeps it simple and classic with minimal accessories and a fun silver clutch.  I like the design at the top of the dress that keeps it fun and not boring or dull. The stunning color makes the red carpet under her look pale and faded.

January Jones

I am not crazy about the Versace gown but it is very unique in an utterly gorgeous color.  I am mainly crazy about the color of the dress which really makes her blue eyes, lips and blonde hair pop. I also love the vintage curls to complete the look.

Rumer Willis

This Reem Acra dress is amazing. The flow, color and is very flattering to Rumer Willis. If I could change one thing about this dress though, it would be the belt. The belt just bugs me for some reason and it makes it seem more casual like something to wear to prom rather than the Golden Globes.  If there was no belt, I would say this dress was utterly perfect.I have to give her props for having black nail polish to make the belt though, at least she tried to make the belt work.

I have to say I really like Reem Acra. I hope we’ll see more of her gowns at the Academy Awards.

Who were your favorites at the Golden Globes?

Note: Technical problems won’t let me show pictures, change text or put in linsks – Working on getting this fixed soon

Fashion Collages and Style Upgrades

I found Polyvore today and I am so in love with it. It combines my two favorite loves: fashion and collages. I can’t wait to use to it to build outfits and share them. It even includes price, brand and where you can buy it. You can even include shoes, accessories, make-up, quotes and themes with the collages. I love how there are fashion sets across the board – girly, high-end, tom-boys, celebrity inspired, video game characters, you name it. You’re not limited to just fashion or celebrity collages either, you can also do interior design and weddings collages on Polyvore. Some of  these collages are just so beautiful – I want to print them out to add to my bulletin board. There is just so much to see on the Polvore, I better get to work adding some HWChic to the mix and looking around.

I am working on re-vamping the blog and fixing the style issues (i.e. pictures not showing up, odd spacing, etc.) so please patient with me while I sort them out.

Don’t forget the Golden Globes are tonight. I’m excited to see what outfits appears on the red carpet.

Viva La Rock

I stumbled across Viva La Rock when they added me to their Twitter following. I decided to check them out and fell in love with their store offerings. I love the words  “Viva La Rock”, cursive handwriting of the words, white hood cords, white zipper,  and color combination are awesome. I love the matching of pink, black and white together. It’s also American Apparel so I know it’s good quality.

I really like this hoodie  because of how I interpret “Viva La Rock.” The hoodie is feminine  tones but powerful with the words demonstrating girls can rock too. I also like how there is writing on the hood that says “So Viva.” I love when people embace the usually boring sleeves, hoods and pockets with something a little extra to spice it up.

I really didn’t think this place was a creative and marketing firm from the layout that reminds me of my favorite blog,  Pink Is The New Blog. It’s an interesting brand idea with the Web store including a variety of items from heart shaped necklaces inscribed with “Via La Rock”, tank tops, guitar pillowcases and mix tape USBs.

I wish the Web site had more on what “Viva La Rock” really means and where the idea came from. I want to know the real meaning behind “Viva La Rock” before I’d buy it. I know what I think of it but I want to know more from the creators of the brand.Their company description just says,

“Viva la Rock is a Los Angeles based marketing and creative resource agency for entertainment companies and youth-driven brands. Viva la Rock executes non-traditional campaigns that target consumers in niche markets through events, promotions and sponsorship. The agency specializes in brand, music and movie partnerships, custom promotions and content, event booking, sponsorship, idea development and launch and special events. Viva la Rock provides the opportunity and access for brands to establish a direct relationship with record labels, artists and movie studio talent. www.vivalarock.net”

I love unexpected, new things you discover from Twitter everyday such as Viva La Rock. If you don’t Tweet, you should go over there and give it a try.You stumble across bloggers, new stories, pictures and even sales you might not have known about otherwise.
